Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know and weren’t afraid to ask!

You should definitely select a pet sitter who is insured for liability. It is important that their coverage includes care, custody, and control of the pet. Both Mia and Kat are insured through Pet Care Insurance and can provide proof of coverage, or a phone number you can call to verify we are currently insured.

Bonding is different than insurance. Bonding generally applies only if someone steals from your home, and is convicted of the crime. At that time, the bonding company will reimburse you for the loss, and the pet sitting business will reimburse the bonding company. It is also important to know that many bonds only apply to the employees of a business, and not to the business owner. So bonding is really optional. However, we choose to be bonded through Pet Care Insurance for our clients peace of mind.

Yes, our meet & greet visit is required before your service can be provided. Kat & Mia work as a small team and both attend the meet & greets. This insures that both pet sitters are fully informed about your pet’s routine, feeding schedule, medications, and any special needs to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience. This 30-45 minute free consultation will give us time to learn about your pets, fill out paperwork, take notes about your home and required tasks, and collect keys from you. We ask that you schedule your meet & greet online at least 3 days prior to the start date of services. If you would like a follow-up consultation at a later date, be aware that there might be an additional fee for this.

Yes, a free TimeToPet account is required before your first service. Creating one only takes a few minutes. Once you're set up, you can request appointments, update your pet profiles, pay invoices, and communicate with us all in one place. After your account is created, a free Meet & Greet is the required first step before services begin.

Kat is based in the North Dallas area and serves NW Plano, Addison, Richardson, Preston Hollow, Prestonwood, NW Dallas, Highland Park, and University Park. Mia is based in Frisco and serves Frisco, Little Elm and Prosper. Our business hours for returning calls, text or emails are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm and Saturdays 10am-5pm. Our phone is monitored 24 hours a day for emergencies, and we will return your call without delay. If you call after hours and it isn't an emergency, then your call will be returned during our normal business hours.

You can also use any browser on your phone to access the portal directly. The app lets you request services, view upcoming visits, pay invoices, and message us from anywhere.

We try and keep your pet(s) on the same schedule as you do, within reason. We ask for a two-hour time window to make our visits in. For example, if you wanted a morning and an evening visit, you might request between 7-9 am and 7-9 pm as a time window. If you book twice per day we aim to keep visits 12 hours apart but cannot guarantee it due to traffic and other pets schedules we are working around. Three visits per day gives us more flexibility. Of course, if your pet is on medication, then we come at more designated times.

For dogs:

We require a minimum of 2 visits per day. Many people prefer 3 or more visits, depending on their dog's needs.
We recommend at least 3 visits per day for smaller breeds as well as younger and older dogs.
We do require at least 3 visits per day for dogs that are crated.

For cats or small animals:

We require a minimum of 1 visit per day for the entirety of the time you are away.
We cannot skip days with any pets in our care. We are very concerned about the safety of your pets, and something could happen to your pet on the day that we do not see them (they could become suddenly ill, their collar might get caught on something, they can get trapped behind something or inside an enclosed space, etc). And many situations could turn serious if not caught quickly enough. Which is why, for the safety of your pet and our own peace of mind, we must see them on a daily basis while you are away.
We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

At Katnip & K-9s Pet Sitting, your primary sitters are Kat and Mia. We work as a small, trusted team so your pets become familiar with both of us and receive consistent, reliable care. If one of us is unavailable, the other will step in to cover the visit or overnight stay. Both of us are fully informed about your pet’s routine, feeding schedule, medications, and any special needs to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience. Our goal is to provide dependable care and peace of mind, knowing your pets are always in familiar and trusted hands.
We often get requests from clients asking to book us for care of their dogs, cats and other pets when they have friends, family, neighbors, or kids covering some of the visits. Unfortunately, due to liability issues we are unable to job share when pet sitting with anyone! When under our care, we let clients know if there is anything off or unusual with their pets or home. However, with job sharing when pet sitting, if there is a problem with a client’s home or their pets while they are away or upon their return, we do not want to be held liable for anything that may happen when their pet isn’t in our care. Some Examples Of Why We Won’t Job Share While Pet Sitting -If a client’s pet is on a limited ingredient diet, we don’t want to be responsible for food they may be given or can get into on their own. -If a door or gate is left unlocked or ajar, we do not want to be held responsible if your pet is able to get out when no one is home. -If a client’s pet gets injured during play time or on a walk when they are not in our care, again we do not want to be responsible. -If a pet takes medication, we don’t want to be liable if the medication isn’t administered properly while not in our care. -If a client’s friend or family member does not show up for their visits we may not know if a visit, meal, or medication was missed. -If a client returns home to something broken or missing, we do not want to be held responsible for something we did not do. The above are only a few of the many possible examples where pet care can be compromised when job sharing when pet sitting or splitting visits with friends, neighbors, or family of clients. It is not that we are trying to make more money by asking a client to book all the visits with us, it is for the safety and security of our client’s pets and their home and to eliminate liability issues playing a game of he said, she said, that prohibits us from job sharing when caring for client’s pets.

Absolutely. We live within close proximity to the clients we serve, having better accessibility to your home than if they lived far away. We use great caution in getting to our clients homes in severe weather, and you can be assured we will be there for your pets. We work in all weather conditions; and our priority is to get to your pet, and make sure their needs are met, even during inclement weather. We do not endanger them by forcing them to walk on ice or during a lightening/thunderstorm, but we make sure they can relieve themselves. When initially meeting with you, we ask for an emergency contact, such as a close neighbor or friend, who could be available if the roads were impassable. Thank goodness, in this part of the country, that doesn't happen very often!

We keep your preferred veterinary information with us at all times and will transport your pet to your vet, if we feel it is absolutely necessary. Of course, we would try to reach you first; but should we be unsuccessful, that would not prohibit us taking them for treatment. We are familiar with all the local emergency clinics. Kat is certified in Pet CPR & First aid. Our priority is your pets' health and well being at all times.

Yes. We can administer pills, liquids, ear and eye drops, injections and subcutaneous fluids. We have experience with diabetic pets and many of the pets we see are on some sort of supplements or medication at one time or another.

We ask all of my clients to call or text us upon their return so we know they made it home safely. Unfortunately, many clients forget or are just too tired. Should you get delayed and need us for a longer period of time, please call, text or send a message in your app and let us know. We will return your message and confirm that we will continue seeing your pet until you return.

Yes, but this service is offered on a limited basis and reserved for established clients. We do, however, offer a two (2) hour Evening Tuck-in service from 8pm-10pm. Opt for a Tuck-in service if you are primarily concerned with ensuring your pet has an evening routine before you go to bed, your pet handles being alone overnight well, or you want to avoid the extra cost of an overnight visit.
2 hour Evening Tuck-in service: We follow your dog's regular schedule, which might include an evening walk, a specific brand of bedtime treat, and a final trip outside to relieve themselves. The visit incorporates your dog's favorite activities. For an energetic dog, this might mean a rousing game of fetch in the yard, while a senior dog may prefer a gentle stroll and plenty of cuddling. For anxious dogs, we can provide extra companionship, offer a favorite blanket, or administer soothing tummy rubs to help them relax and feel safe before bed. For cats that enjoy it, we provide a final treat, a dose of medication, or a cuddle session on the couch before turning in for the night.

Payment is due at the time the service starts on our Time to pet portal or app via credit card, apple pay or bank account. We prefer bank account as it saves us from credit card fees that we currently do not pass on to our clients. Gratuities are never expected but always appreciated for exceptional service.
